Culpeper Literacy Council was started in January 1987 by a group of citizens in the community whose goal was to improve literacy. The Council held its first formal meeting in 1988 and was established as a non-profit organization in 1989. The mission of the Council is to promote, coordinate, and facilitate planning and development of literacy services for adults 18 years of age or older in Culpeper County, Virginia.All classes that are provided by Culpeper Literacy Council are free of charge to all students. Culpeper Literacy Council provides Adult Basic Education one-on-one tutoring to those adults wishing to learn how to read or improve their literacy skills; Offers ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages) throughout the week for students who wish to learn English by using a variety of curriculum and techniques; EL/Civics one-on-one tutoring is available for any adult learner who wants to become a United States Citizen.
