Current2Current Ltd has developed a revolutionary Tidal Energy Converter known as the 'PowerGill'. The PowerGill diverts a horizontal flow to a vertical flow which is exhausted through a vertical axis turbine. This makes the device very stable as it creates a downforce as it works which increases proportionally as the flow increases. This downforce means that the foundation requirements and installation costs are expected to be significantly reduced compared to other devices. The PowerGill takes flow from any direction and lends itself to being tolerant of trawling.
