Performing Arts - Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
DalKing's Swing Dance Society (DSDS) is a Dalhousie University and University of King's College student society dedicated to promoting and organizing swing dancing in Halifax, NS. We aim to foster swing dance in all of its forms including Lindy hop, blues, Charleston, balboa, and more. We gladly welcome community members and university students from all over Halifax (and beyond) to come and enjoy this dance we all love. Our goal is to create not only a booming swing dance community in Halifax, but a safe space for people to feel like they have a second family in DalKing's Swing.DSDS has been running for about 9 years and operates on the Dalhousie and Kings campuses in downtown Halifax and at various venues throughout Halifax. We offer dancing lessons in Lindy hop, Charleston, and blues at regular intervals throughout the year.We offer dance lessons during the fall, winter, and summer semesters mirroring the student year. We also host social dances, Swing Factories every third Friday of each month, one-off events, fall and winter workshops where different instructors are brought in each term, and our prominent fall event is Swing With the Fishes. Our group is organized and run by our volunteer executive and committee groups. The executive is the student group which is re-elected each year during the annual general meeting (AGM) in April that coincides with the students final exams. Our committees are nominated by our executive for a term greater than a year and can involve community members, as planning for events typically take longer than a year.
