DAN ELDON'S LIFE AND ART Dan Eldon grew up in Kenya, a wildly creative young man with a generous spirit who reveled in adventurous safaris — both external and internal. He traveled with Maasai tribesmen and beautiful women, ran from wildebeests and explored Africa in a decrepit Land Rover. By the age of 22, he had traversed four continents, launched an aid mission to a refugee camp, written a book, shot a film, worked as a graphic designer in New York and become a renowned Reuters photojournalist. Throughout his wild adventures, however, he always found a way to help those in need. Tragically, while covering the Somali conflict in 1993, Dan was stoned to death by an angry mob. He was 22 years old. After Dan's death, his family discovered 20 bulging journals packed with startling collages decorated with paint, ink, hair, beads, bits of snakeskin and coins. Following the publication of a collection of Dan's journal pages entitled, The Journey is the Destination, and the opening of a gallery in Soho dedicated to his work, major collectors discovered and purchased fine art prints of his photographs and collages. Dan's exuberant spirit of art, adventure and activism lives on through the Creative Visions Foundation that supports creative activists who use their creativity to explore and transform the world around them.
