About the d'Arcy Doyle Art AwardsThe d'Arcy Doyle Art Awards (DDAA) was established in 2004 by founding Director Earl Hinschen. Over its 17-year history it has grown substantially and has been a stepping stone for many well-established artists. The DDAA offers a major sponsored art prize of $10,000 for the landscape category winner and a further $10,000 prize pool for still life, portraiture and junior artist categories. These awards are a key prize for emerging artists, which has historically focused on the promotion and advancement of representational art. The DDAA is the only Gold Coast visual arts event of its kind that brings together all sectors of the community. We say it is an art event that is run by the community for the community, with all involved having a common goal to promote and build our local visual arts culture. Businesses contribute essential sponsorship funding and donate goods and services; all levels of government contribute grant monies; visual artists enter artworks, provide in-person art demonstrations and volunteer; and community groups donate prizes, food and more. One hundred and seven volunteers were involved in the 2021 exhibition alone and the hours our committee volunteer's contributed is too numerous to accurately quantify. The event engages thousands of people into the Gold Coast's local arts landscape and is well supported by the media. The DDAA committee will continue to embrace opportunities to collaborate with local arts and craft groups to create a festival vibe during the exhibition. There is so much potential for the DDAA to become a premier regional art event.
