Legally founded at 1957 as Waqf Foundation. Education activities already establish since 1854 by Syaikh Abdullah Dt Jabok, son of Tuanku Nan Banyak Dt Perpatih one of judge of Bonjol Region. Education activities continued by two of his son Syaikh Abbas Abdullah (pioneer of Indonesian Islamic Education in Indonesia, who introduce math, world history, and politics on curicullums).The Darul Funun madrasah on that day also pioneer of applying class system in Sumatera, following Taman Siswa and Muallimin Muhammadiyah in Java Island. Darul Funun student then spread this success system to establish the new concept of Madrasah in Indonesia.
