Dawnwood is an education startup that aims to re-think Chinese pre-school education, starting from the bottom up. We believe to prepare children for a world where knowledge is becoming more assessable than ever, we as educators should no longer see ourselves as the givers of knowledge, but instead as partners to facilitate the children's learning process. Our mission is to discover and develop each child's limitless potential, through a customised education based on their individual interests and talents. Our first kindergarten is scheduled to open in September 2016 in downtown Guangzhou (about 2 hours from central Hong Kong). It will be one of the largest kindergarten sites in the city as well as a site dedicated to educational research.We will be the first kindergarten in China to present a ‘modernised' approach to the Reggio Emilia philosophy, integrating its child-led, relationship-based learning into Chinese family and community culture. It will be uniquely dual-language (Chinese / English) so children can grow up in a multi-cultural bilingual environment. In addition, we view the physical environment as the children's ‘third teacher', and are working with internationally-renowned design and construction partners to put together a truly transformative campus as an 'invitation' for children to play and learn at their best.
