March 11, 2011, (Washington DC) - The summer of 2011 will see the start of a new, training and development centered club in the Washington DC metro area. Led by former Washington Freedom directors, Jim Gabarra, Clyde Watson and Win Puffer, the youth club will look to continue the efforts made the past 5 years to give elite level female players a place to grow and develop. Building off the success of being the three time #1 Girls Club in North America while competing in the United Soccer League's Super YLeague, Directors Gabarra, Watson and Puffer will continue their successful training methods with the area's top elite youth soccer players. The club will be comprised of girls teams in the Under-12 through Under-16 age groups with an Under-20 team as well. The club will play under the US Club Soccer banner in various regional and nationals events through the summer months. While disappointed with the loss of the Washington Freedom from the DC area, Gabarra, Watson & Puffer look to continue the alliances they built with the local youth organizations. The DC Elite Training Alliance has been in talks with several clubs to work together to enhance the quality of training already on offer, allowing the top players from the area an opportunity to train together in a competitive environment. "This summer girls program is the first phase in the development of our organization. We are looking to grow and expand what we offer to players in the future," said Virginia & Regional Coach of the Year Clyde Watson. On top of the training offered by the experienced local staff and the competition in the various events, the organization is looking to utilize it's global ties and bring top level coaches from around the world in to work with the teams and offer the players an opportunity to be exposed to different coaching methods.
