Defense & Space - Germering, Bavaria, Germany
In space, the trend goes towards small and standardized satellites that can be launched in the hundreds. But the small size, especially within the launcher limits the possibility of advanced missions that require high power (large solar arrays), high data downlink (large antennas) and so on. A way around this limitation is the use of deployable structures like appendices, antennas or sails which are unfolded once in orbit allowing new high-performance applications that are currently only possible with larger satellites. To tackle this problem, the Munich based new space company DCUBED (Deployables Cubed GmbH) develops miniature actuators and deployables specifically designed and developed in having the need of SmallSat and NanoSat customers in mind.
