The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town was established in 1910 and is the oldest in the country, and possibly in Africa. Thousands of civil engineers have graduated from the university to help build, quite literally, South Africa and many other countries. Our vision is to distinguish ourselves as a leading civil engineering department as measured by the quality of our staff and students, the impact of our teaching, research and innovation, and the contribution our to society.
