The Department of Informatics, as a scientific and educational constituent of the University of Rijeka, conducts scientific and developmental research in information and communication sciences and related disciplines, which forms the basis for the Department's undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and lifelong education programmes. The Department contributes to the promotion and development of informatics in a wider region in which it operates and fosters social and economic development of the region.The Department has three institutes: Communication Systems, Business Informatics and Computer Science with 7 chairs and 4 laboratories, which are structured with the aim to support scientific and educational activities.At the moment The Department has 3 undergaduate studies, 5 graduate studies in information and computer science (3 of them are in cooperation with Department of Mathematics and Department of Physics) and PhD study in Informatics. Department of Informatics was founded in 1984 as a part of Pedagogical faculty, University of Rijeka. At that time the Department had a curriculum for math and informatics teachers. In 2008 the Department is transformed to the University of Rijeka as the central institution for higher education in computer science and information systems.The Department of Informatics is located to the new building at the University Campus on Trsat, Radmile Matejčić 2.
