Sports - Des Moines, Iowa, United States
The Des Moines Blaze was established to bring a permanent, 501c3 non-profit, semiprofessional adult men's football entity in the greater Des Moines area. Our focus is to create a stable, professionally maintained organization, positively interacting and affecting our community while putting a competitive, nationally recognized team on the field. We strive to give players a forum in which to develop, refine, and display their talents whether it be in hopes of advancement to the next level or simply to continue to pursue their passion for the game. We encourage our athletes to continue their personal development as well as pursuing their aspirations on the field, generating positive interpersonal relationships within the organization and the community. Between 2006 and 2009 A talented core group of athletes played in the Des Moines area under three separate names and administrations in just four years. It was a popular opinion among those involved that with a shift in approach to a non-profit organization a more stable, long-term entity could flourish. In their inaugural season of 2010 the Blaze posted a 10-2 record and lost to the national champion Oklahoma Thunder in the WFL Championship Game. The talent and dedication of the players and staff put the Blaze in the national conversation by 2011. Des Moines went undefeated, winning the Midwest Football Alliance Championship, and finished the season #1 in the Semi-Pro BCS poll, out of 367 participating teams nationwide. Over a four year stretch the Blaze has rolled up 49 consecutive wins, four MFA Championships, defeating five league champions, two national champions and adding a second Semi-Pro BCS National Title in 2013.
