Our mission is to connect all Iowans with European traditions, language learning and cultural experiences.. IECC has eight board members, an executive director and 35 committee members. Volunteer hours are 300 per month.DMEHA gives committee members a platform to express their cultural interests. Our fundraising events allow members to share their passion for European culture, cuisine, music and traditions with the Greater Des Moines community. We rely heavily on our members to identify needs they have in their lives and in their communities to drive our programming.Brief description of key programs/activities:Christkindlmarket Des Moines - Regional vendors offer old-world, handcrafted wares and ethnic foods in traditional wooden stalls. Performers provide culturally significant, family-friendly entertainment (polka bands, choirs, bell ringers, dancers) in a heated tent. In the KinderKorner area, children learn to count in another language, create a button tree ornament and listen to a story-teller. Mulled wine served in keepsake boot-shaped mugs and European-style Iowa craft beers are enjoyed. View images of Christmas Markets all over the world: http://ow.ly/w2bJZ Maifest - Celebrate German cuisine, beer and polka music at a casual, lively event.British High Tea - Experience a formal tea with British loose-leaf teas, tea sandwiches and desserts.Christmas in July Bike Ride - A Christmas-themed bike ride to Iowa craft breweries.Doing business in Europe - Etiquette training for business professionals.Viennese Ball - A formal event to celebrate Austrian music, dance and culture.Language School - A language school for non-native speaking children interested in European languages and native-speaking children relocating to Des Moines.
