Research - Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India
I am Gopinath, a Chemical Engineer and a distinguished senior scientist with significant experience in the study of Natural resources and energy. And proud alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology. Our recent achievement is "Desalination of seawater" with minimum environmental effect and expense. After researching the desalination of seawater for years, we have now developed a cost-effective Freeze Desalination (FD) process with salt removers, which removes all salts, including Boron, and reduces the TDS of seawater from 36,500 to about 250 ppm.The existing problem with two well-known processes for desal of seawater--> Creates more pollution (the concentrated salts are more of a threat to the environment)--> Very expensive (Process, chemicals, and infrastructure)So, what is different with our method? The novelty of the process is that No washing of ice is required, as conventionally done and that it enables to get High yields of pure crystalline ice.The same process with modifications can be used to remove Boron as well as to recover Lithium, Bromides, and other sea salts. The salt-free ice enables potable water with high yields. The uniqueness of the process is:• No washing of ice is required• No Pre-treatment of brine• Effluents of RO / high salt brines can be used• Less pollution to sea and air• Lesser corrosion of equipment• Scope to recover Lithium, Boron, Bromides, and other sea salts.• Recovery of water:40 to 60%• Covered by Indian, US & PCT patents (pending)Due to the prevailing Covid pandemic, our progress is held up, and we are planning now for Technology Transfer.Schedule a call for further detailshttps://calendly.com/gopirs/desalprojects
