The Design Center is a project conceived by the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna with funds provided by the Corporate Department of the Emilia Romagna Authority and by the contributions from the Foundation of Savings and Loans in Bologna. The Center is a design services provider, the first of its kind in Italy, with the primary objective of helping facilitate the economic implementation of entrepreneurial activities across the field of design; based on the extensive examples of similar models on the international scale.The Design Center makes use of a scientific committee composed of the leading figures today in the world of design: Giovanni Anceschi (President), Aldo Colonnetti, Carlo Forcolini, Massimo Iosa Ghini, Michael Thomson; and of a team of experts in the field, formed by representatives of the region Emilia Romagna, the Academy, the Foundation of Savings and Loans, and by associates in the field of design. The Design Center follows the original mission of the Academy, founded in the 1700's, to train future workers in the artistic industry, which today is exemplified through the work of the Department of Art Design and Applied Art, with courses in Graphic Design and Product Design.
