Design Kenya Society (DKS) is a not-for-profit society registered in 2010 that draws its membership from from the various design disciplines. The aim of the Design Kenya Society is to promote professional and environmentally sensitive design practice in Kenya, as well as lobby for enhanced awareness and consumption of design. Design Kenya Society is also a founder member of Network of Afrika Designers (NAD) that supports the continental design agenda. Design Kenya Society has two tiers of membership namely professional and student members. The professional members are individuals drawn from both the private and public practice while the school based membership comprises of students studying graphics, interior, fashion and textiles, product including jewellery, ceramics, sculptor and leather, drawn from the various design institutions including but not limited to University of Nairobi, Academy of Graphic Technologies (AGT) and Evelyns College of Design. Design Kenya Society (DKS) in collaboration with the School of The Arts and Design (StAD), University of Nairobi, initiated The Nairobi International Design Conference (NIDEC), to bring together design students, academia and stakeholders. The critical focus of the conference was to position design as a catalyst for accelerated development, industrialization, communication and education in Kenya. It was also important to focus activities on integrative design thinking and harness creative solutions that will make a better Africa.
