A Legacy of CraftsmanshipFOR OVER FORTY YEARS, DESIGNS LIGNA HAS BEEN FAITHFUL TO A FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPT: THE MANUFACTURE OF FURNITURE WITH OUTSTANDING QUALITY AND DESIGN.In 1969, the country's first industrial designer, Al de Lange, and his wife Kay assembled a modest team of craftsmen in a small front yard workshop. The goal was to make the finest wooden furniture available in the country. The outcome was Designs Ligna, a company whose designs were significantly different from what Filipino homes were used to at the time. Contrary to the ornate designs of the era, de Lange designs had clean lines and silhouettes, introducing a new perspective to the art of interior decorating in Manila.Their workmanship and dedication to quality took them from that humble front yard into a widely recognized standard in the Philippine furniture industry. By the early 1980's they had expanded into the export market, supplying pieces for leading manufacturers in the United States, such as Henredon, Lexington, Century, and American Drew, among others. In the 1990's Designs Ligna began developing their product lines further, and marketing their unique designs abroad. Today, the company supplies furniture to high-end retailers in over 17 countries.Relying on their history of craftsmanship, the company continues to produce original designs with a stamp of workmanship that is truly their own, a stamp only achieved by forty years of dedication to wood and art.
