Detroit Aerial Innovations (DAI) seeks to promote and facilitate technology, entrepreneurship, and craftsmanship as it relates to the rapidly growing UAV sector. Students will be provided the knowledge, resources, and materials needed to construct their own UAV model. Additionally, the organization plans to focus on the social impacts and implications of UAVs. Specifically, how these devices can be used as tools in society and their place in the revitalization of Detroit. Utilization of refined UAV technology is part of the vision the Leadership Team possesses. The primary purpose of the organization is for DAI members and Wayne State University students to benefit from the advancement of community knowledge in a modernized industry. DAI plans to fully understand the extensive technology and transmit the information to the student body. The aim is to promote modern technology and remove the negative connotations, stemming from unpermmited surveillance and military use, associated with the UAV sector. Aerial Mapping is a blueprint piece to the DAI theme. Detroit is a massive city, which needs to be surveyed in order to be revitalized. Using drones, we are able to autonomously create 3D maps of various locations throughout the city. The information obtained during these missions can be used to further tackle blight, urban development etc. DAI provides a real-world experience not available to students in the traditional classroom environment. Sponsors have an instantaneous recruiting connection to knowledgeable student engineers. DAI team members are challenged to think creatively and to develop skills such as time management, organization, teamwork, communication, leadership, and customer service. Exposing students to a company sponsorship makes a lasting impression, because it allows them to become familiar with the company's products and services while building a business relationship that continues after graduation.
