The Detroit Center for Civil Discourseseeks to establish a culture whichwelcomes, encourages, and nurtures deepcivic relationships between a diversegroup of people with differing points ofview through respectful and friendlyshared study and mutually impactfulconversation.The Detroit Center for Civil Discourse'sheadlining project for 2019-2020 is theWayne State University StudentFellowship. The 2019-2020 cohortconsists of 20 students, mostly of theMuslim and Jewish faiths. Their work isto practice some philosophy andtechniques of civil discourse in order toestablish strong civic skills which willhelp them foster interpersonalrelationships, and enable them to hearand understand alternative viewpoints,while opening a window of opportunityfor new, creative, and collaborativethinking.
