In fact, farmers continue to be disconnected from end-markets and rely on middlemen who are driven by short-term opportunistic behaviours.Furthermore, the fragility of the system is a fertile environment for criminal organisations "getting to our food" (Financial Times, 8th of November 2018). These issues lead to huge costs for the society: inefficient supply-chains, counterfeit products and unfair trades.
