The FreeNet Digitale Stad Leiden (DSL) was founded in 1995 with one common goal: "provide freely accessible internet for each citizen in the city of Leiden (the Netherlands)". Thanks to a huge number of sponsors and volunteers this FreeNet could succeed in his goal. When the internet coverage in the Netherlands increased to a substantial level, the DSL stopped her activity on January 15 2001
