The purpose of this page is to introduce an approach to organization design based in Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS). We've been working with large international companies for over 20 years with this model including applying it to major construction projects within the "confines" of the usual hierarchically designed organizations. This new approach is critical for young, fast growth technology companies which will soon be on the verge of losing the effectiveness of direct founder's hands on management. As author of two books written in the mid 1990's on CAS theory - one to explain the elements of the theory as applied to organization design and the second to flesh out how to approach a transformation - we are now in an era of disruptive technologies that is making this model an urgent need rather than a leading edge approach. It is now a survival approach. I've just created a website to introduce our approach to organization design and implementation requirements consistent with CAS theory. A new intensive (i.e. short and compact) introductions currently at the publisher. The book will be about 80 pages instead of the combined total of about 600 pages of the first two books. This is highly recommended reading if you are ready to take on transformation. This can be seen as an entrepreneurial approach to operations that can be scaled to any size of company. What makes this a current necessity is the speed of technological development is exponential and the traditional models of organization, particularly large ones cannot obtain, process and apply those technologies with old structures. A patchwork of teams, projects and better feedback will not suffice any more. An organization is a complex adaptive system, but few follow the design principles being an effective organization for complexity.
