The official organ and only continuously published newspaper in Dixie County, Florida.The year was 1921 and Dixie County was about to be born, cut from the southern part of Lafayette County. Fifty-five years earlier Lafayette County had been created by an Act of the General Assembly on December 23, 1856. Nestled between the Suwannee River on the east, the Steinhatchee River on the west, and the Gulf of Mexico on the south and west, Dixie County is surround by water on three sides and shares a common border with Lafayette County on the north.Earlier in the 20th century, on May 19, 1907, the town that would one day become the county seat underwent a name change from Cross Roads to Cross City.From its inception, the Dixie County Advocate has been devoted to the people of Dixie County and the news and events that are a part of this rural county's life and fabric. The Dixie County Advocate is the only newspaper to be continually published in and for Dixie County, and it has been at the same location on Cedar Street, two doors west of the Courthouse, since 1921.LSA Media has continued the Advocate tradition whilst embracing cutting edge internet technology, by employing the services of David Ryman, a local resident, to develop an Advocate online community. In August of 2007, Kathy McKinney was named Editor of the Dixie County Advocate.The Dixie County Advocate is mailed throughout the United States to subscribers, who are former residents, and others, who are interested in this Nature Coast County and the Hidden Coast Communities. Distribution is by mailed subscriptions, and through local stores and vending racks throughout the Tri-County area including Steinhatchee, Horseshoe Beach, Suwannee, Old Town, Rock Bluff, Fanning Springs, and Cross City.
