Dixon Engineering, Inc. (DIXON) is located in Lake Odessa, Michigan. We were founded in 1981 and incorporated in the State of Michigan in 1984. DIXON is a consulting engineering firm specializing in the evaluation and preparation of specifications and contract documents for coating of steel and other structures. We offer an extensive structural and coating inspection program for steel structures, specializing in water storage tanks, clarifiers and bridges. We have been specifying containment system requirements for lead abatement on water storage tanks since 1987. DIXON is the largest firm of its type in Michigan and Wisconsin and works extensively in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois as well. DIXON was founded, in 1981, as a result of a personal experience of William J. Dixon, P.E. who, as a tank painting contractor from 1972 to 1974, observed the credibility gap between the Owner, Engineer and Contractor. Within our first five years of business we developed over 200 clients in the Industrial, Federal and State sectors. Our credibility is enhanced by the fact that we coordinate with, but are completely independent of Contractors, Manufacturers, and Owners. This allows unbiased inspections and recommendations. DIXON now has over 1,250 clients (i.e. Municipalities, Industrial, Federal and State) and performs approximately eighty preliminary maintenance storage tank inspections annually. DIXON started with one engineer and one office staff person. DIXON now employs eight engineers, thirty-five inspectors, and six administrative staff in its Lake Odessa, Michigan, Hales Corners, Wisconsin, Yorkville, Illinois, Kendallville, Indiana, and Medina, Ohio offices.084 Sycamore Dixon maintains a staff of structural, mechanical, and chemical engineers, along with field technicians who are National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), American Petroleum Institute (API) and American Welding Society (AWS) certified. Our employees have over two hundred years' experience in the inspection field. The purpose and necessity for inspection is to ensure the work is performed to the highest standard that will provide the longevity expected with a new or rehabilitated structure. DIXON has been a leader in the coating engineering and inspection field as well as regulatory compliance for the coating industry for years. William J. Dixon, President and Founder, is an active member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), national and state sections; and the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC). He has chaired many committees and presently is an AWWA D-100 Steel Tank Committee member and a member of the AWWA Standards Council. Many of our engineers and inspectors have received training and are certified through SSPC, AWWA, AWS, API, and NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers).
