The Design-Led Co-Strategy for Health Lab (DLCS 4 Health) improves an individual's well-being through increased exposure to stress-reducing and health-related assets. Our work centers on five foundational principles within the urban housing environment: privacy, security, access to healthy nourishment, access to green space, and self-efficacy enhancement through an environment of care and creativity. These principles have emerged through intensive study and problem definition within the urban environment. The interdisciplinary members of the DLCS 4 Health use a modular and community-oriented approach to develop a series of customizable tools and service-oriented interventions for both home environments and shelters. We maintain the understanding that no matter the structure of domestic space, it is considered a health care site. DLCS 4 Health collaborates with housing services and related care groups to co-develop human-centered designs for shared spaces within housing, catering to individuals experiencing housing insecurity. Health equity is driven and maintained through our living spaces and the relative safety and security of our lives.
