DESS was established in 1979 and formally opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, the present Amir's father. We remain proud to be one of the longest established and leading British curriculum schools in Qatar.This academic year (2021 -2022) marks a historic new chapter for Doha English Speaking School (DESS) as we opened our doors to Year 7 students. These lucky students pave the way as the first to use our new building and state of the art facilities: a new Science Laboratory, Art Room and Music Studios, as well as music technology equipment and a Common Room with canteen facilities. Our specialist team of trained Secondary teachers provide rigour and challenge in the curriculum ensuring that students are thoroughly prepared for their next steps after DESS.Following the opening of Year 7 this academic year, we will continue the expansion of our senior school by opening Year 8 in September 2022, to become the only non-for-profit Preparatory School in Qatar. As a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS); a UK kitemark of excellence in education, DESS focuses on providing the best possible pastoral support and academic education for children aged 3-13.
