The Dongzhu Pottery Studio is located right in the heart of downtown Madison. The studio will offer the most cost efficient and effective way for the community to be exposed to pottery. We will offer ceramic classes to both youth and adults on the weekend. During the week we will host events and open galleries, artists are welcome to submit their own work for the gallery. OWNER'S BIO:As someone who is from a small village in Tibet, I have always had the community first mentality. Growing up in Tibet and attending school in the cities of China have helped me understand the importance of local community, how art and cultural knowledge can better shape ones attitude and character. I still remember attending a drawing class and walking across the city to get there, that provided me with a sense of belonging and accomplishment.After arriving to the state in 05, I attended Hamilton and then West High School. All of which had heavy focus in art, something I appreciate to this day."Go for it!" My great grandmother once told my mother when she was deciding to leave home to explore the world, to leave familiarity to discover the unknown.I was first introduced to pottery in middle school, although my interest did not fully develop until I took my first class at West High School. After a long relationship with clay and 7 years later, I am proud to establish my own studio right on Monroe Street.With the support of my family and friends I want to create affordable studio time and classes to the community. To provide exposure to both youth and adult, to share the humbling experience of Clay.I am now also "going for it", following a long family tradition of stepping outside of our comfort zone.
