Since its inception in 2001, Doors Of Change (formerly known as Photocharity), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has helped place over 1,800 San Diego homeless youth ages 12-17 in long-term safe housing.In 2013 Doors of Change expanded and now operates multiple programs aimed at developing trust with homeless people ages 12-24 in order to help them achieve self-sufficiency.These programs include twice-weekly outreach, programs that use the arts to develop relationships and skills, and a comprehensive, long-term supervised housing program for homeless males ages 18-24 that incorporates substance abuse as needed treatment, job training, and life skills to develop self-sufficiency. More information about each program is available on the "Our Programs" page.Doors of Change has a wide range of public and private support, with the bulk of its funding coming from private donors and fundraisers. Students at local universities and high schools have sponsored fundraisers and symposiums. Local government has provided small grants. And the music industry has been especially touched by this cause. Artists including Billy Joel, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, B.B. King, and Aretha Franklin have donated signed memorabilia that raised more than $800,000 in auction fundraisers.Since 2001, the organization has raised $3.5 million.
