Downstate FC was founded because after years of experience of coaching girls, we felt that girls soccer programming could often be overlooked and underdeveloped in the sea of large clubs that were dominantly boys teams. Girls need a specific female program that catered to their developmental needs. They want a club where they feel prioritized with an emphasis on female-focused development. Families want a positive climate (team environment) and culture (club environment) that had a top notch coaching staff that cared about their daughters both on and off the field, but also pushed them to be the best players they could be. Every aspect of Downstate FC caters to providing our players with the best resources both on and off the field. We focus on bringing out the best in each of our players technically, tactically, physically and mentally, which creates the best female-focused club atmosphere in Westchester County. Our philosophy is that proper development of players comes first, which drives everything we do as a soccer club and coaching staff. We believe that players develop best when in an environment that encourages creativity, high-level risk taking and failure, which is driven by our positive psychological approach. Downstate FC focuses on proper development over winning and that focusing on the process will lead to elite level outcomes later on. Our players are consistently challenged by playing multiple positions to maximize their long-term development.Downstate FC focuses on a balance of building out of the back with a possession based style of play blended with high-level risk taking in 1 vs. 1 situations. In possession we look to play through the lines to create high-level scoring opportunities. We want all of our players to be confident with the ball at their feet, engage other players in 1 vs. 1 situations, take high-level risks and to see failure as a source of information.
