Food & Beverages - Downton, England, United Kingdom
The distillery is located in Downton on the River Avon at the foot of the New Forest. The Manor House is one of the oldest buildings in the country built 890 AD for the Bishops of Winchester. The house was owned by the Bishops until 1580 when it was leased to Queen Elizabeth I who gave it to Sir Walter Raleigh (1583) as the first of his many ‘grace and favour' residencies. Whilst living there he was presented a Royal patent to settle the New World in 1584. Explorer's Gin is made in the Grade 1 listed barn using the traditional distilling methods of old.
