Launched in 2009, Doraleh Container Terminal is the latest port infrastructure project undertaken by the Government of the Republic of Djibouti and the leading marine terminal operator DP World. Located at the entrance of the Red Sea, in the second busiest shipping lane of the world, Doraleh Container Terminal through its presence at the heart of the global container traffic aims to benefit from this strategic geographical position to set itself as a regional hub for the regional container traffic by offering to its customers and trade communities world class infrastructures and services. Thanks to its unique competitive advantages, the container traffic in the Republic of Djibouti grew from 100 000 TEUs to 743 000 TEUs in less than a decade placing Doraleh Container Terminal as the main transshipment hub for the Red Sea traffic and preferred gateway for East Africa landlocked countries such as Ethiopia, the leading economy of the region and one of the fastest growing in the world with tremendous potentials in agriculture, light industry, textile and extractive industry to mention just a few. In order to efficiently respond to its customers growing demand, Doraleh Container Terminal already started the feasibility study to expand the container terminal capacity to 3 million TEUs what will definitely increase its attraction and competitiveness.
