DQS GmbH and UL Management Systems Solutions (UL MSS) merged in 2008. With their alliance, Germany's first certification body for management systems and the MSS business unit of America's most renowned product certifier Underwriters Laboratories (UL) achieved a place among the leading certification bodies for management systems in the world. The major shareholders of DQS Group include DGQ (German Society for Quality), DIN (German Institute for Standardization), and Underwriters Laboratories (UL). DIN is the well-known indutrial product standards developer in Germany, whose standards are widely adopted in Europe. With DIN as its primary shareholder since 1985, DQS is the first management system certification body in Germany. DQS is also one of the founders of IQNet. Mr Michael Drechsel, the Managing Director of DQS, is also the current president of IQNet. Established since 1894, UL is the most prestigious product safety standard developer and certification body in North America. UL standards are widely adopted in electrical and electronic industry, fire, water, plastic, and buildling materials related industries.
