Transportation/trucking/railroad - Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States
Drive Safe Kalamazoo (informally known as DSK), was a non-profit organization whose goal was to increase the safety of the community by providing, on nights of operations, a free, non-judgmental, safe ride home to Western Michigan University students and their guests. Drive Safe Kalamazoo started as a class project about 9 years ago. The operation officially started on Sept. 18th 2003, and 53 rides were given on that night. Since then, DSK provided over 65,000 rides to Western Michigan students and their guests. DSK prided itself in being completely non-judgmental. Their main goal was to get its patrons from their pickup location to their home location safely. Therefore, DSK extended a warm welcome to any patrons as long as they can provide one Western Michigan University student I.D. per three people. After 14 years of operations, Drive Safe Kalamazoo ceased operations at the end of the Spring semester in 2017, citing difficulty securing funding and volunteer staffing.
