The Department of Bio and Health Informatics (colloquially known as DTU Bioinformatics) is one of the several departments under The Technical University of Denmark (DTU).DTU Bioinformatics is focused on translating wealth of life and health sciences data into improved human and animal health and to develop solutions to problems of biotechnological and industrial interest.Bioinformatics is the term used to refer to the combination of methods in biology, computation, and information management, which are necessary to advance research relating to all aspects of living systems - from individual molecules, cells, and organs to entire organisms. In our department, we perform research and teaching as well as innovation and consulting within the areas of life and health sciences with our following core research disciplines and capabilities: •Health and genome informatics •Biotech informatics and epidemiology •Quantitative genetics and systems biology •Artificial intelligence and machine learning. The department, with the critical mass and infrastructure in the above areas, is contributing to national initiatives such as: •Personalized, Precision and Predictive Medicine •OneHealth (Human and Animal Health) •Supercomputing solutions for Big (Omics) data. Today the need for training skilled bioinformaticians is huge, and it will only increase in the years to come, as the available biological data is growing exponentially, and at a faster rate than the compute power. New tools are therefore needed to analyze these data. This is where DTU Bioinformatics comes in.
