While the traditional domestic landscape has changed dramatically with the advent of dynamic Transportation Management Systems offered by many Third Party Logistics providers, we quickly realized that the same TMS benefits were not available for managing and optimizing transportation decisions to Puerto Rico. Many of the processes currently used are extremely manual and redundant, resulting in many inefficiencies for carriers, freight forwarders, and ultimately shippers. While working for one of the nation's biggest LTL carriers, I was responsible for the Puerto Rico trade lane. During that time I became very aware of the frustrations that many shippers face when shipping to Puerto Rico. They were frustrated that they could not get an immediate on-line rate quote, were disappointed that they had limited choices to optimize their inland carrier, and were angry that the invoice contained so many different "surcharges or fees" that were not originally quoted. With that experience we set out to create a solution that had the shipper in mind. Eastern Shore Logistics, with our strategic partnership with Caribe Ocean Xpress, was created based on the following principles: Create an online TMS that can: Provide immediate and accurate quotes for door-to-door shipments to Puerto Rico Generate documents needed for ocean transport and island delivery Allow for simple, automated booking of shipments to Puerto Rico Establish a pricing structure that is all-inclusive of fees for business to business shipments Allow the flexibility to choose the Inland carrier that best meets your needs for service and price
