Luxury Goods & Jewelry - La Chaux-de-Fonds, Neuchâtel, Switzerland
In 1887, Georges-Lucien Eberhard founded the Manufacture d'Horlogerie Eberhard & Co. in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Soon, he specialised in the production of technical watches and by 1919 realized his first wrist chronograph. Appreciation for the Company's technical skill flew in from all over the world and, in the 1940's, Eberhard launched the collection that was going to crown the Manufacture as the Swiss queen of chronographs: the Extra-fort line, still in production today. During the "quartz crisis" of the 1970's, many Swiss companies closed forever, but Eberhard resisted thanks to the visionary spirit of Palmiro Monti, an entrepreneur leading a group of investors who acquired the Company. With the revival of the 1980's, Palmiro Monti gave the Brand a new impulse, creating several new collections: in 2001 one of the most innovative chronographs ever, the Chrono 4, was born, with four counters in line that are a patent of the Company and its most iconic symbol. The other collections include 8 Jours, patented model with a power reserve of over a week, Tazio Nuvolari, dedicated to the great racing champion, and Extra-fort, born in the Forties and still a very popular chronograph in the sports-elegance sector. More recently, there was the launch of Scafograf 300, highly technical diving watch that has been awarded as Best Sports Model in 2016 by the prestigious jury of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève and was followed on the following year by the launch of Scafograf GMT. The 2018 collection includes a new model in the collection dedicated to the racing champion, Nuvolari Legend, beside the ladies watch Scafograf 100 and a limited "all black" edition of Scafograf GMT, The Black Sheep. Guided today by Barbara Monti, Eberhard & Co. still is one of the few independent Companies in a universe of giant corporations, free to pursue its values and creativity.
