Venture Capital & Private Equity - Arlington, Texas, United States
Each year, less than 3% of venture capital (VC) funding goes to women and underrepresented minorities. The fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the United States, Black women, only represent 0.2% of VC funding and receive an average of $36K in seed money. While these numbers are alarming, it correlates with the individuals in the industry. Over 85% of venture capitalist are White men and less than 10% of decision makers at VC firms are women. In addition, only 10 VC partners, out of the 2,000+ in the United States, are Black women. There is no question that there is investor bias when it comes to which entrepreneur gets funded. Investors, naturally, invest in familiarity and in people that they connect with culturally. Women and minorities often start businesses as a solution to their lived experiences. Unfortunately, these experiences are not always relatable to the investors who will ultimately, cut that first check. At Ebube Impact, we have experienced both sides of the pitching table—the investor with the funds and the entrepreneur seeking the funds.
