Eckersley was founded in 1955 by John Eckersley, son of the renowned linguist C.E. Eckersley, as a centre for intensive English language study. Our location in central Oxford, a hub of international academic study, provides a stimulating and exciting environment in which to learn. At Eckersley students are always taught in small class sizes, restricted to a maximum of 8 students per class. The close proximity of student and teacher allows us to focus on each student's individual intelligence, encouraging maximum progression towards language fluency. The rigorous Octorial Programme is the foundation of our teaching, delivering a valuable mix of core skills study, situation-dependent communication skills, public speaking and collaborative team projects. For those students with particular professional requirements a variety of specialist subjects can be catered for throughout the course, and there is also the possibility to take an internationally recognised English exam. Our specialised IELTS Exam preparation course, a combination of core language skills lessons and dedicated exam preparation sessions, provides students with the skills necessary to succeed and achieve their very best in the exam.
