Heating water consumes energy and money. But heat is invisible. It is something we all depend on every day, but never think about unless it runs out. And its inefficient. It takes more energy to heat water than almost any other substance on earth and as water cools, it gives off more energy than almost any other substance. But most of the time, we use hot water only for a few seconds, and it gets discarded into the drain, taking energy and money with it. In 2005, the US Department of Energy estimated that over 35 billion kilowatt hours of energy are lost every year in the form of hot water going down drains in homes and buildings. We made it our mission to come up with a solution. Our solution is a heat exchanger that transfers heat from outgoing warm water to cold fresh incoming water on its way to the water heater. The result is less energy and money spent heating water. Every EcoDrain has been built with passion and the pursuit of excellence, and is the result of thousands of experiments. Our devices can be installed in minutes and save energy for years. We are committed to our craft, and we have made sure that our EcoDrain heat exchangers are not only simple to implement, but also beautifully designed. We have been featured in the New York Times, Fast Company Exist, and Inhabitat. In December 2014, our A1000 device was selected by Architectural Record Magazine as one of its Record Products of 2014. We contribute thought leading content in our field, and have been invited to speak at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy's Hot Water Forum. We also blog at www.proudgreenhome.com. There are nine million water heaters sold every year in the US alone. No matter how efficient the water heater, the bulk of the energy consumed by the heater will end up lost down the drain. Our mission is to make it easy and common to reuse this energy and make hot water more efficient.
