ecoinvent Details
Founded by the Swiss research institutes ETHZ, EPFL, PSI, Empa and Agroscope, the ecoinvent Association is an internationally active not-for-profit organization devoted to supporting high quality science-based environmental assessments. Its activities include publishing and maintaining the ecoinvent Database, which currently contains 17'000 reliable life cycle inventory datasets covering a diverse range of sectors on global and regional level. The organisation further leads, or participates in, initiatives with the aim of promoting good practice in the creation and use of life cycle inventories around the world.The ecoinvent Database lays the foundation for life cycle assessment projects, eco-design, and product environmental information. Since 2003, it has enabled companies to manufacture their products more in harmony with the environment, policymakers to implement new policies, and consumers to adopt more environmentally friendly behaviour.
