Leisure, Travel & Tourism - Athens, , Greece
Tourism in Greece requires a major paradigm shift from the outdated and seasonal 'sun, sea and sand' model to a sustainable one with endless all-year-round possibilities, highlighting all branches of ecotourism and alternative tourism. Another existing challenge in tourism is the incomplete and often incomprehensible travel information about Greece, be it online or in local, municipal and government-sponsored brochures. The Ecotourism-Greece.com project aims to become the leading online travel portal and reference for the undiscovered wealth of Greece, from eco-friendly activities and heritage to local food, archeology and outstanding landmarks. Its aim is to showcase alternatives to the outdated model and empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) all across rural Greece by highlighting what they have to offer. The recently established website is continuously being written by native English speakers with sensitivity to the environment and a deep love for Greece. The portal invites users to discover the country either by region or by theme (e.g. small eco-friendly hotels and guesthouses, historic religious sites, hiking, skiing, diving, kayaking, mountain climbing, birdwatching and local cuisine). The focus is on subjects that highlight local businesses, culture and traditions, as well as on activities that do not harm the environment.
