Publishing - San Pio, Abruzzo, Italy
Il Sirente is an editorial project born in 1997 and originally turned towards the publication of scientific essays on international politics. By 2007, the editorial project has been reorganized and broadened; without putting aside its traditional field of interest, Il Sirente turned towards literature. Currently, Il Sirente has three literary series ("Fuori", "Altriarabi", "Comunità Alternative") and three nonfiction series ("Inchieste", "Nuovi percorsi", "Diritto"). While the editorial project is dymanic and ever-developing, the common line inspiring the editorial project is rather the way of publishing books rather than in its genre – be that fiction, poetry, essays, and so on. The inspiring guideline is summed-up in one word: slow-publishing. That means publish little, and pay much attention on the selection if the titles to include in the catalogue and on the quality of the book in its different facets – graphic layout, page make-up, and so on. As a medium-size publisher aimed at participating in the definition of the – boradely speaking – "cultural policy", Il Sirente does not try tracking down bigger pubblishers in the search for best-sellers; it rather aims at building its own identity based on quality publishing.
