The Edmonton Short Film Festival (ESFF) is dedicated to the elevation of independent film and the local film community, with a special emphasis on showcasing and supporting Alberta film and media artists. The mission of the ESFF is to provide an opportunity for Alberta independent filmmakers to showcase their short projects. The vision of the ESFF is that we are dedicated to the advancement and education of all Alberta independent filmmakers to reach their creative goals.We serve independent filmmakers of all levels by supporting their work and offering training; and the wider community by making indie short films accessible. Our programs reach a wide and diverse audience through live events as well as online delivery to remove in-person-event barriers. The films wescreen represent the diversity in our community, giving voice to artists and providing opportunities for others to connect through visual storytelling, thus creating empathy through shared stories.Our main goal is to showcase and support Alberta Independent Filmmakers by offering a film festival, workshops and special filmmaking and screening events - both in-person and virtual.It has been the ongoing practice since inception of the organization to include films that are reflective of our community including Indigenous, People of Colour, Minority Languages, Women, LGBTQ2s and otherequity-seeking groups. Our community screening events allow us to specifically support indie filmmakers from these groups as we can only screen so many films at our annual short film festival. By increasing our Community Screening events we are able to partner and collaborate with more organizations giving not only our Alberta and Edmonton filmmakers more opportunities to screen their films, but also the audience more opportunities to watch stories that are reflective of our diverse communities .
