The Edinburgh International Asia Conference (EIAC) is aimed at providing a source of knowledge and expertise for students and professionals in Scotland with an interest in living or working in Asia.EIAC 2016 had over 300 students and 100 professionals attend the event throughout the day, either listening to the Keynote speeches, or participating in one of 17 workshops, which were hosted by our partner organisations and held around the University of Edinburgh campus. Critical debate and discussion were stimulated, regarding our theme, "Will the 21st century belong to Asia?". Students became inspired by our keynote speeches and then applied their interests in Asia to an industry/topic of their choice, in the form of workshop sessions. We would like to extend a special thank you to all the panellists and speakers at the event. Lord Stephen Green as Keynote speaker, inspired the entire audience with his rewording of Horace Greeley's famous quote 'Go West, young man', as a summon for all students in Scotland to 'Go East'. Quote from Fiona Hyslop MSP -- "'It was a pleasure to speak at the inaugural Edinburgh International Asia Conference. I was very impressed by the event which resonated so strongly with the Scottish Government's internationalisation agenda. Many of the students who attended will have left with a strong impression of how we can build strong links between Scotland and Asia across trade, education and culture. I look forward to the event becoming a regular feature in the calendar - with the drive and enterprise shown by the organisers of the conference I'm sure this will happen."As a student-led initiative, we were reliant on the support of our partner organisations. The organising team of EIAC was deeply humbled by the sheer depth of support that our partners kindly gave us. Thank you for supporting our vision of a more outward-looking Scotland building stronger connections with the emerging nations of Asia.
