Electric Railroaders' Assoc., Inc. (ERA) is a non-profit educational organization consisting of anyone interested in the history and progress of electric railways. The ERA was founded August 15, 1934 by Edwin Jay (E.J.) Quinby, 1894–1981. Benefits of ERA membership include monthly meetings, regional trips, annual conventions, biennial international tours, monthly newsletters and a yearly magazine.Monthly MeetingsAnyone interested in electric railways may view our monthly Zoom meetings to see photo, movie and video presentations by well-known transit writers and photographers. The meetings take place on the third Friday of each month.Regional TripsThe ERA is famous for its exciting trips and events. Recent events included the Connecticut Day Trip and the Newark Light Rail Trip.Annual ConventionsAll ERA members are invited to attend our annual conventions, held each year in a North American city with electric rail operations. Past conventions have been held in El Paso, San Francisco and New Orleans. Our 2022 convention will be held in San Diego.International ToursEvery even-numbered year, the ERA conducts a multi-week tour of urban, rural and interurban traction systems in a foreign country. Previous tours have been conducted to Southern Germany, Spain and Japan. Our 2022 international tour will be held in Greece.Monthly NewsletterAll ERA members receive monthly issues of The Bulletin. Each issue consists of news primarily about New York-area transit, with additional reporting devoted to national and international systems.Annual MagazineAll ERA members receive an annual issue of Headlights, America's premier journal dedicated to light rail transit, subways, interurbans, electric railroads and other forms of electric transportation around the world. Each full color, ad-free issue is packed with in-depth coverage contributed by leading writers and photographers in the transit field.
