We at EES focus on energy related topics in the field of Battery Systems and Power to X.The research group 'Battery Systems' works among other things in the following topics: New materials of battery cells, diagnostics, state estimation, and modeling of battery cells as well as battery system engineering and development. In the research group 'Power to X' we look into electrified processes that produce value added products with a main focus on Plasma technology. Multiple challenges can be tackled using Plasma processes, from energy related topics like storing surplus renewable electricity in chemicals, to replacing conventional fossil based routes for the syngas production. The electrification of conventional processes is a corner stone in the Energiewende and especially the chemical industry faces challenges in this regard. Plasma technology can be a powerful tool to overcome some of these challenges. Therefore we are motivated to push this technology further and enable industrially relevant applications within the next years. The Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EES) department is under the direction of Prof. Birke and is part of the Institute for Photovoltaics (ipv). The EES itself is subdivided into the two described research groups Battery Systems and Power to X.
