Nonprofit Organization Management - Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Elephant Space is a non-profit organization created to provide a safe space for youth . Currently, we are partnered with the Community Corner in St. James Town, offering a drop-in program on Fridays after school for youth in the community. We provide board games, snacks, homework assistance, workshops and mentorship development programs for youth between 12-14 years old. The space is staffed with supportive and trained youth coaches, who can provide guidance and foster personal growth. This program takes a preventative approach toward issues such as bullying, suicide, and isolation. Our market research shows that the St. James Town community has approximately 650 children between the ages of 10-14 who are particularly in need of an afterschool program that works with this demographic in this very transitional stage of life. Currently no programs exist for this age group within the community. According to our sources in the community, administrative staff from local schools, and current after school programs, there is a significant gap in after school support for ages 12-14. Parents from the community have also expressed a need for these types of supportive afterschool programs available for their children. It is important to Elephant space that youth are able to relax in a safe space but also have the choice to access and engage in activities such as workshops, board games, mentorship services that will create a sense of community.
