Animal Control Officers (ACOs) play a vital role for people and animals within our community. Their job involves public safety, enforcement of animal ordinances, animal care and rescue, and community education. ACOs operate as a branch of the Elmira Police Department. The main office is located at City Hall at 317 East Church Street, Elmira, New York, 14901, phone (607) 737-5807. ACOs also have an office located at the Elmira Animal Shelter at 842 Linden Place Extension, Elmira, New York, 14901, phone (607) 737-5767.The offices located at the Elmira Animal Shelter at 842 Linden Place Extension is open to the public 10:00a.m. – 4:00p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 10:00a.m - 12:00p.m Sunday and Monday. Animal Control Officers (ACOs) are currently staffed from 8:00a.m. –5:00 p.m., 7 days a week. During the hours of 5:00 p.m. – 8:00a.m., ACOs may be called in for emergencies.ACOs are dispatched through the Chemung County Communications Center, which can be reached at (607)735-8600.
