empirica has gained a strong profile as a leading European research institute on eHealth conceptual issues, policies, strategy development, clinical and socio-economic impact, technology assessment and business development. It regularly undertakes, usually as project leader of international consortia, assessment and evaluation studies of complex eHealth RTD developments and ICT-enabled systems and solutions applied in healthcare, including developing exploitation strategies and business plan development. It has also undertaken research on eHealth strategy development and implementation by EU Member States, on market trends and developments, including establishing for the EC a data base of good practice case studies, and performed foresight exercises. A globally acclaimed study on economic impact assessment of a wide variety of eHealth solutions (eHealth IMPACT) was published by the EU in 2006. empirica has strong experience in international cooperation in health and IT policy activities, of implementation work and research, as well as of coordination of actors and stakeholders at the global, transatlantic and EU level. It has participated in EU-missions to the USA and Australia, and represented European research at global conferences.
