Industrial Designers' Society of Turkey, the fundamental professional organization of industrial design in Turkey, was established by a group of industrial designers in Ankara in 1988. The society has branches in İstanbul, İzmir and Ankara. ETMK aims at promoting industrial design profession to the society, constituting and protecting designers' rights and authorities, enhancing communication and solidarity amongst colleagues, and collaborating with corresponding institutions in user and manufacturer studies in order to present well-designed products to the society.ETMK aims to take action about design with colleagues, manufacturers and users in joint platforms through the exhibitions it has opened, competitions it has organized and supported, books and catalogues it has published, panels and training sessions it has realized until today. The primary goals of ETMK are to show the increasing importance of industrial design within the local and international markets, and to share experiences and contributions of Turkish designers, by reaching out to various sections of the community and the industry. To accomplish these goals, each year ETMK organizes many activities and documents them.ETMK is the creator of Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards executed in collaboration with Turkish Ministry of Economy and Turkish Exporters Assembly. ETMK is a member of the following institutions: Design Advisory Council of Turkey (TTDK) chaired by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID, recently renamed as World Design Organization, WDO), Ministry of Economy Design Enhancement Committee, and Council of Creative Industries (YEKON).
